Set in the 1800's, Dutch gardener Meneer Chrome (Ewan McGregor) is contracted by Thomas Smithers (Pete Postlethwaite) to create an extravagent garden for his wife Julianna (Greta Scacchi) at their secluded country estate. Julianna's cousin Fitzmaurice (Richard Grant), who arranged for Chrome's services, has plans to bankrupt Smithers and win the heart of his cousin before they discover the true identity of Chrome. Now one man's passion and another's obsession are about to collide...with the force of nature.
